Road Skills
Is your child keen to develop their bike skills and confidence on real roads?
Our Children’s Road Skills course will increase your child’s confidence for cycling on London’s roads - whether it’s to and from school, or at the weekend - and will help you feel reassured that they will cycle with safety in mind.
Our Road Skills course focuses on gaining practical skills and an understanding of how to cycle on today’s roads.
The course is taught to the Department for Transport’s National Standard, and aligns with Bikeability Level 2.
During the course, your child will learn how to start and stop with more confidence. They will learn how to safely pass stationary vehicles parked on a road, and how to share the road with other vehicles.
They will gain an understanding of signals, signs and road markings, and how to negotiate the road, including cycling past side roads and entering and exiting junctions.
Course details:
Our children’s Road skills course is designed for children aged 11+, as long as they can cycle independently and demonstrate the required cycling skills for on-road training.
We can work with children individually, or in pairs, if family and friends want to learn together.
The course is delivered in a single 2 hour session.
The session takes place on quiet residential roads close to rider’s homes, in London zones 1 & 2.
Riding environments are fully risk assessed prior to each session. A parent or guardian must be in attendance at all times when a child is receiving individual training.
Riders will need their own bikes and helmets. Check out our Brand Partners page for details of brands and retailers we recommend.
